On Jan. 29 at 11 a.m., Bonnie Hore of Gore Bay, Ont., won the $250,372.50 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s (SAHF) January electronic and online 50/50 draw. Her lucky number (O-6635877) was drawn electronically, and she was contacted immediately.

Bonnie, who grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, moved to Gore Bay in the 70s. Although Manitoulin Island is where she has lived for over 40 years, heading to Sault Ste. Marie is ‘heading home’. Bonnie and her family are excited by their win, and have big plans to travel and share it with the people and organizations that mean the most to them.

“We have big families, and we’d like to share what we can. Beyond that, I’m writing a story about the Yukon so, when we are able to, my husband and I are going to travel there!” said Bonnie.

Bonnie started purchasing SAHF 50/50 tickets a few months ago. She had seen how big the prizes were, and felt good about where the money is going.

“I’ve enjoyed purchasing lottery tickets in the past, but sometimes when you don’t win you think of it as a waste. It’s not a waste when you are supporting hospitals, like in the Soo. That’s just incredible,” said Bonnie.

Bonnie’s prize marks the fifth straight jackpot of over $200,000 for the monthly draw. Sault Area Hospital Foundation also keeps $250,372.50 and it is put towards purchasing medical equipment needed at Sault Area Hospital.

“SAHF 50/50 has exceeded our expectations this past year – bringing in over $1 million for medical equipment at our hospital. We’ve been able to survey our ticket buyers again this month, asking where they’d like us to use the proceeds and the response was overwhelmingly ‘wherever they are needed most’. With millions of dollars in capital needs for the next year, SAHF 50/50 will help us make a serious portion of the equipment list – purchasing tools that will help us provide care at SAH. Every ticket has the chance to change a life – yours, if you win, but also the lives of those in our community who get access to outstanding care, here,” says Teresa Martone, executive director, Sault Area Hospital Foundation

Tickets for SAHF’s February 50/50 draw are already on sale, and the grand prize grows with every purchase. ‘$1,000 Thursdays’ early bird draws continue this month, with the first two draws on Feb. 4 – so don’t wait, get your tickets now!
