*************************
Historian and author Larry Chabot, of Marquette, will speak at Bayliss Public Library on Thursday, October 5, at 7 p.m., in a joint program with the Chippewa County Historical Society.

“Twelve True Soo Tales” will tell the stories of various visitors to Sault Ste. Marie—a Medal of Honor soldier, another with five Purple Hearts, the shortest presidential visit ever, VIPs through the Locks, the local boy who made Army Chief of Staff, Public Enemy No. 1, and other notables.

Larry Chabot is a native of Ontonagon, who studied at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He lived in White Pine for 32 years while he worked for Copper Range Company. His interest in writing began in elementary school.

Chabot’s work has appeared in such publications as Michigan History magazine and Marquette Monthly newspaper.

He has written two U.P. history books: The U.P. Goes to War: Upper Michigan and Its Heroes in World War II (2006) and Saving Our Sons: How the Civilian Conservation Corps Rescued a Generation of Upper Michigan Men (2009). His books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

Bayliss Public Library, an affiliate of Superior District Library, is located at 541 Library Drive in Sault Ste. Marie. Please enter by the library’s front door as the rest of the library is closed for the evening.
