Kensington Conservancy program manager appointed new executive director

The Kensington Conservancy is very pleased to announce and introduce you to their new executive director, Carter Dorscht. Carter has been with The Kensington Conservancy since 2016.

The Kensington Conservancy is a local land trust located in the St. Joseph Channel area. They currently protect more than 900 acres of ecologically sensitive lands. With a conservation centre located in the town of Desbarats, it is a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, birders, and those deeply concerned about our environment.

Carter started with TKC as an intern under a grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation. His first position was that of Land Stewardship Coordinator, where he gained first hand knowledge of our local preserves and land protection in general. His diploma from Sault College’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Technician program prepared him with the knowledge base to do great work.

Carter expanded his role by becoming a program leader, social network guru and strong community partner. He took over the role of chair for our local Sustain Algoma Expo and grew a great following of local birders. He had excelled so much in this role he became our program manager.

Several years at Algoma University also helped Carter become a strong and important member of The Kensington Conservancy team. He has written successful grant applications, hired and managed staff, and knows the world of land protection very well.
