NEWS RELEASE

ALZHEIMER SOCIETY

*************************
On Sunday, Jan. 29, walk indoors in the Walk for Alzheimer’s in support of the services that the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District provides to local people affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Registering and collecting pledges online and/or by pledge form helps provide support to local individuals and their families who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease, as well support for caregivers and their families.

Registration for the Sault Ste. Marie Walk for Alzheimer’s will take place at 12 noon and the indoor Walk begins at 1 p.m.

Each year, 25,000 Canadians hear the words, ‘you have dementia.’ But dementia is more than just numbers. Friends, families and members of our communities all experience the personal and social impact of dementia.

For our health-care system and economy this means higher demand for services and soaring costs. It’s not just their disease. It’s ours too.

Remember, what’s good for the heart is what’s good for your brain. So while you take care of your own brain health, gather friends, family and co-workers to honour the memory or celebrate the life of a person living with dementia. Who will you walk for?

The Sault Ste. Marie Walk will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 at White Pines Secondary School. To register, visit walkforalzheimers.ca or call 705-942-2195 for pledge forms.
