Golfers chip into new cup for Big Cup Scramble

Despite snowy weather, golfers are thinking about sunnier days on the greens. The Water Tower Inn Big Cup Scramble for United Way announced 2019’s tournament date at a fun-filled pizza party at The Water Tower Pub earlier this month.

Sponsors and golfers were introduced to our newest Big Cup Scramble challenge, the Big Chipper Cup, a three-foot tea cup that contestants chip into. One lucky participant, Tyler Epp, won a free entry into 2019’s tournament.

In 2018, the Big Cup Scramble raised $60,000 for United Way. The hospitality-driven charity golf tournament exceeded golfer expectations with 100 per cent of post-tournament survey respondents saying they would recommend the tournament to their friends. The tournament will be even more exciting in 2019 with challenging, but light-hearted contests, delicious food and a tongue-in-cheek sense of humour.

Registration for the 2019 Big Cup Scramble is now open. Men’s, women’s and mixed individuals and teams are all welcome to play Monday, June 17, 2019. Register before Jan. 31, 2019 and receive a $25 Water Tower Inn gift card as an extra bonus. It makes an excellent holiday gift for the golfer in your life.

The Big Cup Scramble is the evolution of United Way’s Charity Golf Classic, held annually for the past 21 years. The tournament welcomes golfers of all levels, with golfers playing into large paint can-size holes and unique challenges such as the “Bra Dilemma” and the “SAXX Ball Park Pouch” hole. United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District uses the money raised to fund poverty reduction in our community.

The Water Tower Inn has supported United Way’s annual golf tournament for over 10 years, becoming the Title Sponsor in 2015. For forty-five years, The Water Tower Inn has supported local initiatives to improve the Sault Ste. Marie community, and in turn the community has allowed us to host their many celebrations and events.

It was only natural for the Inn to take a strong planning role in the Big Cup Scramble and utilize our hospitality culture to make the United Way’s golf tournament a continued success.
