The Old Grand Dad Golf Tournament, now preparing for its 41st year, may take place on American soil, but with an even division in the nationality of the golfers, sponsors from both sides of the St. Mary’s River and strong support for charities in Canada and America, it embraces life on the border of two nations.

All golfers must match one of the two qualifying characteristics to register; you must either be at least 55 years old or, regardless of age, you must be a Grand Dad.

This uniqueness to the tournament has helped it continue strong into its 41st year. Val and Jean Suriano, who are members of the committee for this event, made a visit to Sault Area Hospital to donate the proceeds from the 2015 tournament.

Their donation is going to help purchase the new CT Scanner required at our community Hospital.

“It’s a great tournament and it’s always lots of fun, but being able to do that as well as support local healthcare for our friends and family members, that’s special to the ‘grand dads’” said Val Suriano, 2015 Tournament Co-Chair.

This year’s tournament is on Sept. 3, 2016. For more information on how to sign up or sponsor, contact the Sault Ste. Marie Country Club Golf Course, 1520 Riverside Dr., Sault Ste. Marie, MI.; Phone: 906-632-7812.

Registration is $50 USD per golfer. This includes a tee gift, coffee and donuts and a great steak dinner.

Thank you to the committee for hosting this tournament as well as thinking about our community healthcare! Good luck this year!
