The Ontario Finnish Resthome Foundation is excited to host its very first ‘Homes with a Heart’ Valentine’s Online Auction.

In collaboration with Michael Peever Auctions, this new fundraiser will be held online from Monday, Feb. 8 at 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2021.

Items from several local businesses and artisans are up for bidding, including a Lenovo laptop, Savoy’s bracelet and earrings, a Marcus Mariota signed football helmet, tools, Gucci sunglasses and a ‘Wheelbarrow of Wine’ prize from LCBO.

Treating yourself or a loved one to a Valentine’s Day gift not only brightens up a life, but with each prize won, proceeds will benefit the lives of Ontario Finnish Resthome Association (OFRA) residents.

Over the past four years, the Ontario Finnish Resthome Foundation has held its annual Harvest Fest Event & Draw, which has raised over $245,000. The funds raised bought the residents of OFRA a new bus as well as provided funds toward the New Mauno Kaihla Koti (MKK) Redevelopment Project.

But, the Foundation stated in a release, because of COVID-19, it has been unable to host these types of fundraisers.

Care for seniors, especially during the pandemic, is of paramount importance.

The new Mauno Kaihla Koti will double the size of the current Mauno Kaihla Koti facility, creating construction jobs in Sault Ste. Marie and permanent full-time jobs at OFRA.

"For Valentine’s Day, the Foundation hopes you will join us in celebrating love. Love for OFRA residents, love for the seniors in our community, and love for investing in their future," a release states.
