The Ontario Finnish Resthome Association and Foundation will be hosting its first virtual event, 'OFRA’s Juhannus Telethon,' sponsored by SalDan Construction Group, showcasing local talents, music, food, and so much more! The event will take place on Thursday, June 24, at 6 p.m.

The event will be livestreamed on OFRA’s Facebook page to replace events that have been cancelled this year. The foundation is partnering with Aurora’s Restaurant to bring dinner options for viewers to pick up and then watch the telethon from the comfort of their own home.

“Every year, the Ontario Finnish Resthome celebrates our two major events,” said Margaret Gardner, fund development coordinator for the Foundation. “Our annual Juhannus Celebration (Finnish Midsummer Celebration), and Harvest Fest, our biggest fundraiser. The Juhannus Telethon combines all the elements from both events into one spectacular night of entertainment,” Gardner said.

SalDan Construction Group and Acclaim Ability Management Inc. – Maximus Rose Living Benefits Inc. along with a very generous anonymous donor have all pledged to match donations made during the Telethon dollar-for-dollar, up to $20,000.

In addition to OFRA’s Juhannus Telethon, CanadaHelps is hosting a 'Great Canadian Giving Challenge' for the entire month of June. For every $1 donated to OFRA through CanadaHelps.org, OFRA receives an entry into a draw to win $20,000!

Donations can be made at www.ontariofinnishresthome.ca, by phone at 705-945-9987 ext. 257, or by mail to the Foundation at 725 North St. Sault Ste. Marie ON, P6B 5Z3. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the New Mauno Kaihla Koti – Long-Term Care Redevelopment Fund that aims to provide the newest and greatest long-term care home in our community.

The Ontario Finnish Resthome Association is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1971, whose fundamental goals are to provide housing facilities with specified levels of care (independent living, supportive housing/assistive living, and extended nursing care) and social services to seniors within a milieu of Finnish culture and traditions. The Ontario Finnish Resthome Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization that acts as the fundraising body for the Association.
