NEWS RELEASE

ST. VINCENT PLACE

*************************
The community is being called upon to help with the St. Vincent Place 5th annual Big Blue Box Drive on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016.

Donations to the St. Vincent Place Food Bank can be placed in  any type of box and placed curbside before 10 a.m., and a St. Vincent Place volunteer, marked with organization’s ID and ribbons will pick it up.

As the cold winter months approach us, the Food Bank and Soup Kitchen at St. Vincent Place are collecting food donations to its Food Bank and Soup Kitchen services.

Suggested items to include in any donation are: canned items, soups, pasta sauce, and cereal, juice boxes, instant dinners such as macaroni and cheese, and basic needs such as shampoo, soap and dental care products. As demand increases, the supply is quickly decreasing.

“We are witnessing a larger than ever demand for our services,” says Deanna Dalla-Vicenza, fundraising chairperson at St. Vincent Place, “and we hope this food drive helps us continue to serve those families that are in need of a hand up.”

Donations can be put in the ‘old’ recycling boxes (blue or yellow), tote bins, or any box for pick up on Saturday morning. Volunteers with blue and white ribbons on their vehicle will be collecting donations throughout Sault Ste. Marie.

When a box is placed curbside before 10 a.m., it ensures that volunteers and drivers will not miss your donation. This annual event is aimed at stocking the shelves of the Food Bank for those who use the services throughout the year.

With the help of this year’s sponsors CTV and Green For Life, the drive is aimed at continuing to provide food to individuals and families that are in need.

On average, the St. Vincent Place Food Bank assists over 2,000 families per year. St. Vincent Place operates a twice-weekly food bank as well as Soup Kitchen services, both being held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

If you are unable to put a donation curbside, or live in an apartment building and still want to contribute, you can contact the organization directly to arrange for a pick up at 705-253-2770 Ext. 2.

To make a contribution year-round, please visit the new St. Vincent Place website to see how you can donate.
