The Sault Naturalists of Ontario and Michigan will be hosting a program at Bayliss Public Library on Tuesday, Apr. 11 at 7 p.m. Jeff Lange will speak about and show his film, “Dance of the Sandhill Crane” that documents the extraordinary life of this ancient species.

You will experience courtship dancing, chick hatching, life around the marsh and beyond, and intense sibling rivalry, a significant cause of chick mortality. It was filmed around Petoskey, Michigan.

Jeff is the founder of LoonCorps, an organization that seeks to restore loon-breeding lakes and territories throughout Northern Michigan. He is also a singer/songwriter who plays at various music venues throughout Michigan, and is fond of kayaking Ontario's Goulais and Agawa Rivers.

Founded in 1954, the Sault Naturalists is an international club with about 100 members from both Ontario and Michigan.

The club objectives are to provide members with a common meeting ground for exchanging ideas and for broadening their knowledge and understanding of natural science; to promote the appreciation, preservation, and conservation of our natural heritage; and to support and co-operate with other organizations having similar aims.

The club is active in environmental advocacy, stewardship, and education and has participated in planning for national and provincial parks. For more information, see www.soonats.pbworks.com.

The public is invited to attend this free presentation at Bayliss Public Library, a Superior District Library, at 541 Library Drive in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. For more information about the library, call 906-632-9331 or check www.baylisslibrary.org.
