COMMUNITY LIVING ALGOMA

There seems to be a stigma attached to the city of Sault Ste. Marie and communities throughout the Algoma district that suggests there are very few opportunities for employment. New graduates, or anyone that might be looking to make a career change, often fear they will have to leave our community in order to find work.

Community Living Algoma is looking to help change that stigma. The organization is looking to grow by actively recruiting people looking for employment in a profession which can result in a sense of fulfillment and personal satisfaction.

As outlined in the organization’s Mission Statement, “Community Living Algoma supports people with intellectual disabilities. We are committed to the advancement of a community in which all people are recognized as full citizens, achieve personal dignity, enjoy the benefits and responsibilities of independence, and are supported to reach their full potential.”

CLA is hosting a job fair Thursday, May 31 from 5 p.m.-8p.m. at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn West Courtyard at 360 Great Northern Road. The event is open to the public, and those interested in a career as a Community Living Support Professional are encouraged to attend with copies of resumes handy, as interviews may be conducted on the spot.

“It was exciting to meet and interview such a vast number of talented people that attended our last job fair who expressed their purpose to make a difference in someone’s life,” said Human Resources Manager Niccette Reed. “If you are also looking for a rewarding career, we look forward to meeting you on May 31.”

The employees CLA intends on recruiting are those with values that align with our organizational values, and that are eager to positively impact the lives of those we support. These recruits must embrace the importance of the inclusion of all people, enabling individuals to take their rightful place in society.

“Community Living Algoma has set a target of 60 new employees before the end of July 2018,” said Executive Director John Policicchio. “At our first job fair in March 2018, we had 38 people attend. It was a great first-ever job fair for Community Living Algoma.”

With this organizational growth, Community Living Algoma aims to make Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District a leader in inclusion of all people within. We are striving to promote awareness of our vision, so that citizens throughout Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District can help contribute to communities where all people belong.
