Community First is excited to begin the second season of its Motivate 2 Skate program. Motivate 2 Skate was created in 2017 to provide free skate days to local schools, including equipment for students in need.

The first free skate day for the 2018-2019 season is scheduled for Dec. 14 and child-sized skates are needed for the students of the school selected to participate.

“We are looking forward to our second season of Motivate 2 Skate” says Liisa Woolley, Chief of Member Service for Community First. “We introduced the program in 2017 and supported two schools, provided skating days to over 400 local youth, and thanks to our community’s generosity – collected over 100 pairs of skates. This year we are hoping to get even more students that don’t have access to equipment involved, and are looking to our community again for their support.”

Community First is asking you to donate your gently used child-sized skates to either of their two local branches during business hours at 289 Bay Street and 535 Trunk Road.

The free skate days include:

  • Ice time at the Community First Soo Pee Wee Arena
  • Skates and CSA-approved helmets for students that need them
  • Bus transportation to and from the arena
  • A complimentary pizza lunch
  • Community First staff onsite to help administer equipment

If you are a school representative and you’re interested in applying for a free Motivate 2 Skate day, visit www.communityfirst-yncu.com/Motivate2Skate to learn more.
