Sault Ste. Marie’s 15UG Steel City Ignite Flames Volleyball Team competed in the Ontario Volleyball Association Provincial Cup Tournament Nov. 26 in Newmarket, Ont.

Steel City Ignite Flames travelled with a roster of 13 amazing athletes and their families to compete against volleyball clubs from the Greater Toronto Area. This was the 15UG Steel City Ignite Flames season-opening tournament and they started out on fire! Each athlete played smart, they were aggressive, and they pushed hard to the very end. Steel City Ignite 15UG Flames finished in 7th against some very tough teams from the GTA.

The 15 UG Flames also participated in an Ontario Volleyball Association pilot program which required them to score keep and call lines during the tournament play.

Coaches Kara Paat and Kaitlin Antler say, “We couldn’t be prouder of this group of amazing athletes. This tournament served its purpose, the girls advanced in skill, connected as a team and most importantly had fun playing an amazing sport. They are ready to get back to practice at Sault College and continue to train for the largest Provincial Volleyball Championship in Canada, Ontario Championships, which will be held in April 2023."

Steel City Ignite 15UG Flames would like to thank their sponsors, Island Market in St. Joseph Island, DKI Disaster Solutions Services, O’Neill, DeLorenzi & Nanne Law Firm and IDA Drug Marts on Second Line West.

We look forward to cheering on the 18U Team who travels to the GTA December 3rd, followed by the 16U team on Dec. 10. To learn more about upcoming events follow Steel City Ignite on Facebook or go to their website.
