Know a graduating high school student who’s heading off to study in an environment-related field this fall? Make sure they know Clean North is offering Algoma District youth who plan to study the environment the opportunity to apply for two $500 scholarships (one university, one college).

“Today humanity is facing many challenging environmental problems: Climate change, industrial pollution, the microplastics crisis, invasive species, declining biodiversity, and more,” says Clean North’s Peter McLarty, who coordinates the scholarship program. “The need for passionate, dedicated people to work in environment-related fields has never been more critical.”

So who is eligible? In addition to graduating from a high school in Algoma District this year, applicants must:
    •    Be in good academic standing
    •    Be accepted/enrolled full time in an Ontario university or college environmental studies program for the coming academic year
    •    Have a record of community service/extracurricular activities

McLarty notes that environmental studies includes a broad range of disciplines—environmental science, natural resources, ecology, environmental engineering, conservation biology, sustainable development, environmental law and justice, environmental education, climatology, and more.

The application deadline is June 9, 2023. For more information and a link to the application form, visit the website.
