CIBC supports cancer care at Sault Area Hospital

In honour of World Cancer Day, the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) is pleased to announce that they have received a donation of $5,000 from CIBC.

This donation will increase local patients’ access to quality cancer treatment and care.

The gift was made specifically to purchase a Computerized Ambulatory Drug Delivery (CADD) Pump for typical use in a number of clinical patient care situations at Sault Area Hospital (SAH).

The pumps offer safe, controlled, and self-delivered drug administration, allowing patients to receive chemotherapy or pain management medications in Palliative Care, Acute Care, and Oncology settings throughout SAH.

A total of 18 CADD pumps were placed on the capital needs list by SAH this year to deliver care locally, at a cost of $4,853 each.

We’re proud to help make a difference in our region and ensure that those affected by cancer receive the best care possible.”

The Algoma District Cancer Centre (ADCC) at SAH treats approximately 28 patients per day in the Cancer Clinic and 22 patients per day in Radiation Therapy with many more visiting the department for education, checkups, etc.

“Many patients enter ADCC every day and our goal is to provide the best possible care. We have great staff and amazing volunteers at our Hospital, but the one thing we need hospital-wide each and every year is new equipment. It’s donations like this that help purchase the medical equipment required to deliver the care our patients deserve. With the most up-to-date equipment, local patients will have access to excellent care, close to home.” Dr. Silvana Spadafora, Medical Director/Oncologist of the Algoma District Cancer Program at SAH.

The CADD pumps are one of the items on the 2015-2016 SAH capital equipment needs lists.

This list indicates the equipment required to deliver care at our local hospital.

The community’s support to SAHF is the primary source to fund these equipment needs.

There is $3.6 million in medical equipment needed in the current fiscal year, including a new CT scanner for the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

The CT scanner plays an important role in our healthcare, including cancer care, as scans are used to locate tumors, diagnose ailments and injuries, and give physicians the information needed to start patients on life saving treatments. www.sahfoundation.com/donate
