The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) has a new Chair with Sandra Turco acclaimed to the position at Wednesday night’s monthly board of trustees meeting.

Turco’s first term as Chair of the HSCDSB comes after she served as vice-chair for the past two years. She has been a trustee since 2000.

“I appreciate the confidence in my fellow trustees to acclaim me to this position. As vice-chair, I gained important experience that will help guide me in the chair role. I look forward to leading this team of trustees and working with our senior administration team,” said Turco.

Gary Trembinski, in his sixth year as a trustee, will sit as vice-chair for the second time. “I take this role very seriously and I will do my utmost to make you proud,” said Trembinski.

“I have enjoyed working with Sandra over the years. She is a very dedicated trustee and I am confident she will lead the board well,” said Director of Education, Rose Burton Spohn.

“Gary has been very active in numerous committees since being elected as a trustee in 2014 and is well acquainted with the role of Vice-Chair.” Burton Spohn added, “I thank our outgoing Chair, Lindsay Liske, for all of his leadership, guidance, and support, particularly throughout the pandemic.”

The new chair and vice-chair will lead the board as it moves ahead with its new Multi-Year Strategic Plan in the new year.
