BURGER DON

The Sault’s newest hotspot for burgers and other gourmet pub food, Burger Don, has been overwhelmed by the support it’s received since opening last month.

“We cannot thank the Sault Ste. Marie community enough for coming in waves to enjoy Burger Don,” says owner Nick Cavaliere. “We could not be happier with the response our newest restaurant has received, and want to celebrate by doing something special for the community.”

Starting on their Grand Opening, Saturday, June 18 for one week until Saturday, June 25, Burger Don is going to give one dollar from every burger sold to the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen.

Burger Don will be challenging other local businesses to offer their own promotion to help the Soup Kitchen, starting with their very own Fratelli’s Kitchen & Pizzeria. Fratelli’s will be tasked with challenging another business when their week is up.

“When we heard about the issues the local Soup Kitchen was having, we knew we had to step in and help,” says owner Sergio Cavaliere. “It’s our responsibility as local businesses to assist when we hear that people in our community are struggling. We love our city and want to do whatever we can to help. So come see us and let’s fill those shelves at the Soup Kitchen.”

Last month the Soup Kitchen Community Centre issued a request to the community to help out with the inventory and funding issues that the centre had been facing.

The James Street centre served 2,236 meals in April, up 60 percent from 1,411 in October. Their canned good supply has depleted and donations have slowed since the latter half of 2015.

“There’s more people in need,” said Soup Kitchen Food Services & Financial Manager Ron Sim. “It’s a sign of the times and the economy here.”

Burger Don is open 7 days a week, from 11 a.m. to midnight and is located at 7 Great Northern Road. Keep visiting Burger Don’s Facebook page to find out what other local businesses are being challenged to help the Soup Kitchen.
