The Bon Soo Winter Carnival is just three days away! While the annual celebration of soup and the winter carnival, Bon Soop, is on hold for 2021, there are some exciting events designed to support the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area and the Buy Local campaign.

Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021: On the first Saturday of Bon Soo, celebrate by hiking the trails at the Sault Golf Club and warm up afterwards with chilli from Mulligans Irish Pub. A portion of chilli sales and trail donations will go to the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie’s service projects. Shop local!

From Feb. 5 to Feb. 14, 2021 during Bon Soo: The following restaurants will be donating a portion of their soup sales during the 10 days of Bon Soo to the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area to fund local service projects: Subway (Station Tower, Churchill Plaza, Second Line and Great Northern Road strip mall), Freshii, Big Lake Cabin and Shabby Motley.

“Because of the challenges with COVID-19, the club opted not to do the annual Bon Soop campaign during Bon Soo this year. Bon Soop has been a part of Bon Soo since 2006,” stated Gayle Manley, one of the Bon Soop organizers. “However, five local restaurants stepped up to the 'plate'( or should that be 'soup bowl'?) and found a unique way to support Zonta and our local service projects by donating a portion of sales to our club. We are so grateful to these restaurants and hope people support them. Shop local!”

Zonta is a global service organization of members working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area celebrated 42 years of service in the community in 2020. The club supports a number of local service projects including scholarships at local high schools as well as Sault College and Algoma University, Breton House, Women in Crisis, Breast Cancer Comfort pillows, Days for Girls hygiene kits, the Sexual Assault Care Centre, literacy and ovarian cancer awareness.
