NEWS RELEASE

BREAKING AWAY

*************************
Breaking Away is a local non-profit organization that provides support and encouragement for individuals with a developmental disability.

We provide opportunities to create lasting friendships and explore and participate in our community.

We create a fun, caring, and supportive environment, where everyone is free to learn and be their own self.

The school year is rapidly coming to a close and we, at Breaking Away, would like to inform you of our summer program.

Normally our program is geared toward students over the age of 21 who completed a life skills program and transitioned out of the school system.

Our summer program however, is open to future potential students of Breaking Away, at the high school level.

Our summer program will include: a morning and afternoon snack, and a student prepared nutritional lunch.

Daily activities include shopping for groceries, visiting the library, participating in community events, bowling, swimming at the John Rhodes Pool, yoga with Jade Wellness, Zumba classes, baking with The Pastry Shoppe and mindfulness meditation.

Within each fun activity there will be countless learning/teaching opportunities for your student. Social skills and personal care, including hygiene and nutrition, are also critical aspects of our program.

The summer program will run for six weeks, Monday through Friday (July 4 to July 22, 2016) with a hiatus for two weeks and then restarting the program (August 8 to August 27, 2016), 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Mount St. Joseph Learning Center.

The program could be offered to those interested in full day programming for $70 per day (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) or $50 per day for half day (12 p.m. - 5 p.m.) programming.

If your student requires 1:1 care we are able to accommodate. In this situation the family can send their own worker to come to the program with the student to provide the 1: 1 support.

Our program fee for full day 1:1 support is $35 per day (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) or $25 per day for half day (12 p.m. - 5 p.m.) .
