ALGOMA ROD AND GUN CLUB
*************************
The Algoma Rod and Gun Club at 226 Connor Rd. has been having our Gun and Sports Show the day before Mother’s Day since 2012. Admission has always been by donation. This year we are having a draw for $1,000 at 3 p.m. with only 200 tickets available at $20. We have four door prizes which are drawn at 3 p.m. also.

We have vendors selling firearms and archery equipment, but we also have Great Lakes Honda with their outdoor vehicles.

This year we will have cadets from the 2310 Army Cadet Corps there to demonstrate their air gun program and to offer information on their program for youths from 11 to 18 years of age. The club donates the range every Saturday morning to the cadets and they have used it for their orienteering program and well as winter survival. We also host two cadet biathlon competitions every winter with about 250 cadets and staff from all over Ontario at each one.

We have all our ranges open with range safety officers so anyone who wants to can try shooting shotguns, handguns, rifles or archery. It doesn’t matter whether you have a firearms license or not. Jane Perry has information on how to obtain your firearms license. Lana Perry will be on hand with information on the public archery nights she has twice a month at the club as well as information on the archery lessons she gives at the Club. Lana will also have information on our ladies night which is on July 10 this year from 4 to 9 p.m. We are starting earlier this year and have more ranges open to accommodate all the ladies who come out to try their hand at shooting and archery. Judy Ingram will be on hand with information on archery on St. Joseph Island.

We have the kitchen open with fresh homemade cinnamon rolls in the morning and meatball subs, jumbo quarter-pound hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch, as well as coffee, tea and pop.

If you have never tried shooting don’t miss this opportunity. The show is on May 11 and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 226 Connor Rd. which is off the Sixth Line.
