ADSB students give back this holiday season (5 photos)

December can be a difficult month at the best of times for some families, individuals and community organizations who support those most in need. This year, more than ever, that is the case.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted some fundraising opportunities and donation options as restrictions were required to ensure everyone’s health and safety.

Still, Algoma District School Board (ADSB) students and staff pitched in and collected an overwhelming volume of food items, new toys, hygiene and other personal necessities for families and agencies throughout the district.

Almost all ADSB schools, elementary and secondary, throughout the district, contributed and collected items for those in need. Below is a small sampling of some of the successful fundraisers held and donations made by students and school communities, along with photos.

Boréal Public School participated in a week-long canned food drive.

Each day of the week was themed and the class that collected the most cans were rewarded with a pizza day.

School administration shared, “We are overjoyed to share that we collected over 3600 items for our local Soup Kitchen, with the winning class collecting over 400 cans! We would like to acknowledge all students, staff and our parent community for their amazing contributions and generosity during our food drive.”

FH Clergue Public School held a very successful food drive for the Soup Kitchen Community Centre.

Soup Kitchen Community Centre staff shared, “We were amazed by the amount that the students collected. It’s always so amazing to see our younger population coming together to help so many of the non-profit organizations that need help during these very trying times.” 

The Grade 7 class at F.H. Clergue also collected items for Pauline’s Place youth shelter and donated essential items for the clients.

White Pines Collegiate & Vocational School held a very successful canned food drive, led by their Student Senate.

They collected several shopping carts full of food items for Christmas Cheer.

The Algoma District School Board thanks everyone who shares their time and resources to help make this holiday season meaningful for all.

This year especially, we thank staff, students and families for all they are doing to help keep our communities safe.
