The 13th annual Credit Education Week (CEWC) will be happening Nov. 12 to 15. 

Credit Education Canada holds a nationwide essay contest for Grade 12 students. The subject ‘What is the Dumbest Thing You’ve Done With Your Money’. 

Winners are awarded bursaries to help with their post-secondary education. This year we are pleased to announce a local winner! Aaron Mills will be awarded $1,500 for his essay submission. He will be presented his award at our Northern Community Centre event on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. Congratulations Aaron!

Credit Education Week is a nation-wide event. It came about to provide people with opportunities to tap into the wealth of credit counselling resources that are available. The goal is to empower individuals to be better able to navigate their personal finances; allowing them to make better decisions and achieve their personal goals.

Credit Counselling in cooperation with the Northern Community Centre, the Seniors Drop-in Centre and the Public Library is offering the following free sessions during Credit Education Week.

‘Money Mindfulness’ Lunch and Learn

Topics include money management, healthy credit and how to stretch your dollar.  

  • Where:  Northern Community Centre 556 Goulais Ave.
  • When:  Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 1 - 2 p.m.

Lunch, light refreshments, and give-a-ways provided.

* Essay Winner Presentation at 1 p.m.

‘Money Mindfulness for Seniors’ Lunch and Learn

Topics include money management, healthy credit and how to stretch your dollar.  

  • Where:  Senior’s Drop-In Centre 619 Bay St.
  • When:  Thursday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Lunch, light refreshments, and give-a-ways provided.

Parent and Tot Read-a-Long 

Topic is ‘The Importance of Saving’

Where:  James L. McIntyre Centennial Library 50 East St. in the Program Room

Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. 

*Attendees will receive a complimentary piggy bank and book to take home. 

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.  

* Quantities are limited and will be given out a first come first serve basis
