Remember Pride Beer?

Well, it's back, Gateway City Brewery, after three years of selling out, “Real Love” Pride beer, has brought it back one more time to help support North Bay Pride 2022!

“It is our pleasure to support North Bay Pride and the 2SLGBTQ+ communities," said Sully Sullivan, Gateway City Brewery spokesman. "Pride brings a lot to North Bay, and we see it growing every year and impacting positive change in all our communities. It is our pleasure to support North Bay Pride each year helping them create successful events and tackling political issues when many groups won’t. They not only talk the talk but walk the walk and that is something we are proud to associate with.”

It is still illegal to be part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community in 68 countries around the world.

“It is even harder to believe that many of these countries have the death penalty for being gay," added Jason Maclennan, Communications for North Bay Pride.

"When people ask why we need pride or what about a straight parade, you truly need to ask yourself, is there anywhere in the world that it is illegal to live like a straight person? And the answer is no. Corporate support like Gateway City Brewery is pivotal in helping us create education, and events and tackling political issues around the world. And let us be clear here, sadly we have seen many homophobic comments on social media in the City of North Bay, and around Ontario and throughout Canada.”

Maclennan explains that the group works hard to be equal.

"We work hard for others to be heard and we do things that many people are not willing to do. For example, we have put it out there that we will have a trans rights march on September 16 because we are here to support the trans community as they are still having many issues like proper gender affirming medical care, mental health and in many cases, losing their employment or home because they are trans.

"Trans community members face more violence in the workplace and community than the majority of people and this is something we must correct as a society. So, when you say everyone is equal in Canada and has equal rights under Human Rights Code, talk to a trans person and see if this is true, or talk to the person who lost their home due to living with HIV. At the end of the day, this is why we still have pride, this is why we march. Everyone is not treated equally in Canada or around the world and we will have pride until everyone is truly equal.”
