Brigitte Acton of Sault Ste. Marie won the gold medal in women's downhill at the Pontiac GMC Canadian Junior Alpine Ski Championships in Quebec City on Sunday. In the same event, Lauren Lattimer, also of the Sault, won the silver medal.

David Turco scored at 3:58 of overtime to give the Soo North Stars a frantic 4-3 win over the Kapuskasing Flyers in game one of their opening round Great North Midget Hockey League playoff series Saturday night at Memorial Gardens.

NORTH STARS BEGIN PLAYOFFS SATURDAY

The Soo North Stars will begin a best-of-five series with the Kapuskasing Flyers with games Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday's game will be at Memorial Gardens, with Sunday's match set for the John Rhodes Community Centre.
