Week seven has drawn to a close in the local Women's Hockey League with Source For Sports and Country Way looking to pull away from the pack.

After a slow start, Algoma Insurance has begun to claw their way back up the standings after running their unbeaten streak to four games with a pair of wins.

The following is a recap of game action from week seven provided courtesy of the WHL's Lorie Springall:

WEEK # 7 - February 15th & 16th

Joey "The Goalie" Montgomery earned her first shut out of the season and third win in a row as Algoma Insurance extended their unbeaten streak to four games. Algoma Insurance defeated Crawford's Canines 1-0 on Sunday and doubled Skip's Kweok 4-2 Monday night.

Jenny Sayers scored the only goal they needed against Crawford's with 12:32 remaining in the game. Theresa Glover had the assist.

Pam Linklater netted her first goal of the season in Algoma's 4-2 win over the Kweok. Sayers, Julie Hodkinson and Sheree Wright also scored. Donna May Sayers-Lariviere played yet another stellar game on defence, collecting one assist in the process, while rookie Wendy Mandolesi earned her first point in the WHL with one assist.

Replying for Skip's Kweok was Joanne "Jersey" Pine with both goals. Kyla Sewell and Jo-Anne Jones had one assist each.

The goalies stole the show again in Sunday's second game. After being sidelined for six weeks with an ankle injury, Carolyn Tomchuk returned to action for Palmer Paving. Both Tomchuk and Source For Sports' Laurie Terris were outstanding between the pipes, keeping the score locked at 1-1 for most of the game.

With only 1:46 left to play, Source's Leah-Anne Pine poked a rare rebound past Tomchuk for the winner. Pine also assisted on Source's other goal, scored by newcomer Julia Robertson, her first of the season, in only her second game. Karen Gartshore and Mona Jones had one assist. Palmer Paving's lone goal was scored by Lori "Big Bird" Bonnell. Doreen Shaw had the only assist.

In Monday night's action, Laurie Terris recorded her first shut out of the season in Source For Sports' 2-0 win over Lafarge. Vern Sewell scored her first goal to put Source up 1-0 late in the second frame and Leah-Anne Pine added the insurance marker with just over a minute left to play. Penny Souliere, Julia Robertson and Mona Jones picked up one assist each.

Country Way scored all their goals in the second period en route to a 3-1 win over Crawford's Canines. Christine Trivers, Krysten DiTommaso and Andrea Moraca each scored. Trivers also had one assist.

Crawford's Elaine Angelic robbed Country Way's Lisa Venier of a shut out with just over four minutes remaining. Angelic smartly tipped in a shot from Heidi Frech to get the Canines within two, but that was as close as they'd get.

In Palmer Paving's 5-3 win over Investors Group, Anita Kovac scored her first two career goals, including the winner. Lisa Case also had two goals for the winners. Debbie Desgagne had a goal and two assists. Other assists went to Lori Swan and Jean Feagan.

Francine "Flash" Floreani and Shelli Ubriaco each had a goal and an assist for Investors. Trish Evans also scored. Other assists went to Lisa Rowlinson and Patti Lutz.

Action continues this Sunday at McMeeken. Investors Group and Lafarge meet at 4pm while Country Way takes on Skip's Kweok at 5pm.

Games in Echo Bay Monday begin at 6:30pm with Crawford's Canines and Skip's Kweok followed by Palmer Paving and Lafarge. Source For Sports meets Algoma Insurance at 8:30pm and Country Way faces off against Investors Group at 9:30pm.
