Women's basketball opens with two games

The Primo Pizza Women's Basketball League began their first week of play with a pair of games at Sault College on Thursday night. In the opener, Alicia Moon's 10 points led a balanced Sault College offense to a 40-24 win over Sault This Week.

The Primo Pizza Women's Basketball League began their first week of play with a pair of games at Sault College on Thursday night.

In the opener, Alicia Moon's 10 points led a balanced Sault College offense to a 40-24 win over Sault This Week. Mary Ann Cavaliere, Jen Cronin and Erica Nethery each scored six points for the winners. Jen Muio with 12 and Amanda Sicoly with 11 replied for Sault This Week.

In the second game, Cambrian Mazda edged Pabst Blue Ribbon 33-31. Jessica Stone led the winners with 12 points while Heidi Jaaskelainen added 11. Roseanne Gaudio led Pabst with 12 points while Stella Viotto scored eight.

Games in the 10-week schedule are played on Thursday nights beginning at 6 p.m. at Sault College. The league features women ages 16 and older with college and high school experience.
