Wilson, Praysner untouchable at Laird

George Wilson started his party by blowing away the late model field for a three-win night at Laird International Raceway.

Celebrating his 32nd birthday at the track on Thursday night, Wilson won both his heat races and coasted to a feature win in the late model field.

After moving up the field from his start near the rear, Wilson engaged in an entertaining mid-race battle with Al Gold for third place. After bumping and rubbing each other several times, the two touched again causing Gold, who was driving the 97 car usually driven by his son Michael, to spin out onto the field and retire to the pits for the evening.

Wilson quickly overtook Rod Bolduc Jr. for the lead and was never threatened through the final laps to claim the chequered flag.

Dennis Varcoe was black flagged in the feature by starter Mike Huffman for colliding with Glen Irwin during a caution. Huffman pulled both cars to stop and headed onto the track to talk with both drivers. After his conversions, Varcoe was sent pit side.

Late model points leader Robert Hiiemaa finished second in the feature and won the fast car dash.

Meanwhile, Jason Praysner continued his late season dominance in the factory stock division by winning the 40-lap make-up feature race and the regular 20-lap feature. The make-up race held after a twin 20-lap feature was rained out two weeks ago. No factory stock heat races were held.

Brimley, Michigan's Bob Laphew captured the pure stock division feature race. Laphew is one of several drivers in the running for the division's points championship. Corey Diotte and the Michigan Sault's Barry Glenn won the heat races.

Garden River's Scott Syrette won the feature and both heat races in the stock four division.

The second last night of racing will be held next Thursday night at LIR with qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

The make-up date for last Thursday's rained out show has been scheduled for Sunday, September 14. Racing for the season's final program will begin at 3 p.m. preceded by qualifying at 2 p.m.
