Overage forward Hayden Verbeek of the Soo Greyhounds has signed an entry-level contract with the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

The Canadiens announced the signing of the undrafted free agent forward on Saturday.

Verbeek is coming off a regular season that saw him set career highs in most offensive categories, including goals (30) and points (61).

“I had a really good off-season (last summer),” Verbeek said recently at the Greyhounds annual awards banquet. “I worked a lot with Drew (Bannister), Wardo (Assistant Coach Ryan Ward and (associate coach) Joe (Cirella). I think my game has really elevated to another level. I’ve been able to put the puck in the net a bit more and things are just clicking this year.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
