After an unexpected weekend off, the Sault Sabercats varsity team is on the road on Sunday evening in Ontario Football Conference playoff action.

The Sabercats will take on the Huronia Stallions in a 5 p.m. kickoff in Barrie Sunday after advancing thanks to a first round playoff win against the Vaughan Rebels, a game that the Rebels forfeited.

After winning four-straight to end the regular season, Sabercats Coach Matt Premo said having the unexpected week off last week makes maintaining momentum harder but it did have its benefits.

Premo would say the game not being played allowed the team to get healthy heading into this weekends matchup with the Stallions.

“The ability to get healthy is huge,” Premo said. “This is probably the healthiest we’ve been all season. In that aspect, (the time off) was good.”

The two teams met just once during the OFC regular season with the Stallions picking up a 23-15 victory over the Sabercats on June 3 at Superior Heights in a game that would drop the Sabercats to 0-2 at the time.

“They’re a great team,” Premo said of the Stallions. “We’ve watched a lot of game film and they’ve got better but we’ve got better as well.”

The Stallions finished the regular season in second in the OFC’s North Division with a 5-1 record, earning a bye in the opening round of the playoffs. Huronia’s lone loss was a 24-9 setback against the Peterborough Wolverines on June 17 in Peterborough.
