VALLEY EAST -- Becky Day's six gold medals powered the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club to a Second Place finish at the Dinan Invitational Swim Meet here over the weekend.

SSMAC had 12 swimmers in the 11-team event, which attracted 215 athletes from across the region.

Day's performance earned her top achiever in the 10 and under age category. Her wins were in the 50-metre backstroke, freestyle and butterfly and the 100-metre butterfly, individual medley and freestyle.

Ryan Biocchi was third in the 10 and under boys' competition for top achiever with second-place finishes in the 100-metre individual medley, the 50-metre freestyle, the 200-metre individual medley, the 100-metre butterfly and the 100-metre backstroke. He was also third in the 100-metre freestyle.

Jordan Boucher, swimming in the 13-14 age range, placed first in the 50-metre breaststroke, and was second in the 100-metre breaststroke and freestyle and the 200-metre individual medley. He was also third in the 100-metre individual medley.

Julia Defelice recorded second-place finishes in the girls' 10 and under 50-metre freestyle and butterfly and the 100-metre backstroke and butterfly. She also finished third in the 200-metre individual medley and the 100-metre freestyle.

Julia Turgeon finished second in the girls' 10 and under 200-metre individual medley and 50-metre breaststroke while placing third in the 50-metre backstroke, 100 breaststroke and the 100-metre backstroke.

Chris Biocchi had third place finishes in the boys' 11-12 age range 50-metre breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke.

15-year-old Alex Bonne was second in the 50-metre butterfly.

Anastasia Greve had a third place finish in the girls' 11-12 age range 50-metre breaststroke.

The mixed freestyle relay team of Alex Bonne, Chris Biocchi, Peter Olinger and Jordan Boucher placed first as did the medley relay team of Becky Day, Jordan Boucher, Julia Defelice and Alex Bonne.

"This was a good meet, particularly for some of our younger athletes," said SSMAC coach Nancy Day. "Many of our swimmers consistently scored best times which means their hard work in practice is paying off."
