Thunderbirds skate past Express

The Soo Thunderbirds skated to a 4-1 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory over the Espanola Express on Thursday night at the GFL Memorial Gardens.

A pair of first period goals, including one in the opening minute of action, got the ball rolling for the home side.

Noah Boman opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds 55 seconds into action.

Spencer Van Tiem chipped in with a pair of goals while Bonam had a goal and an assist.

Matthew Bazarin also score for the home team.

Diego Pasula had the lone goal for Espanola.

Thunderbirds goaltender William Anderson made 16 saves while his counterpart, Andrew Rocha, made 30 saves for the Express.

Winners of three-straight games, the Thunderbirds will take a 29-9-0-1 record into action on Friday night at home against the Powassan Voodoos. Puck drop at the GFL Memorial Gardens is set for 7 p.m.

Espanola falls to 7-34-0-1.
