As camps prepare to open around the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Soo Thunderbirds roster continues to take shape for the 2018-19 season.

On Friday, the team announced the signing of local forward Noah Boman.

Boman spent last season with the Greater Ontario League’s Niagara Falls Canucks.

The six-foot, 170-pound centre had 21 goals and 45 points with the Canucks in 45 games.

Earlier this summer, the team signed a trio of local players that included forwards Avery Rebek and Camden Findlay and defenceman Nate Medaglia.

Rebek led the Soo Greyhounds AAA midget team in scoring last season with 19 goals and 33 points in 36 Great North Midget League games. Rebek was also called up for 10 games with the Thunderbirds.

Findlay had seven goals and 18 points in 36 games with the Greyhounds midget team while also playing in three games with the Thunderbirds.

Medaglia had five goals and 35 points in 42 games of high school hockey with the St. Mary’s Knights last season.

Other signings by the team over the summer include goaltender Colin Ahern, an 18-year-old who spent the last three seasons at St. Mary’s Springs Academy in Wisconsin, and forward Jamie Damignani, who spent the 2017-18 season with the Grey-Bruce Highlanders AAA midget team.

The Thunderbirds open regular-season action on Sept. 7 at home against the Soo (Mich.) Eagles in a 7 p.m. start at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
