Thunderbirds shut out Bobcats to end road trip

ELLIOT LAKE, ONT. – In their lone game of the weekend, the Soo Thunderbirds shut out the Elliot Lake Bobcats on Friday night. Goaltender Joel Horodziejczyk stopped all 27 shots he faced as the Thunderbirds blanked the Bobcats 3-0.

Goaltender Joel Horodziejczyk stopped all 27 shots he faced as the Thunderbirds blanked the Bobcats 3-0.

After a scoreless opening period, Gavin Burbach got the Thunderbirds on the board early in the second period with a power play marker. Josh Borgen added another power play goal midway through the third period while Dallas McLaughlin rounded out the scoring for the Thunderbirds with a shorthanded marker with just under six minutes remaining.

Defenceman Tyler Jones added a pair of assists in the win for the Thunderhrids.

Elliot Lake goaltender Cory Simic stopped 35 shots for Elliot Lake in the loss.

The win improved the Thunderbirds league-leading record to 17-2-1-2. They currently sit two points ahead of the North Bay Trappers.

Next action for the Thunderbirds is Dec. 2 when they host the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners at the Essar Centre. Puck drop is set for 4:30 p.m.
