The Soo Thunderbirds will head on the road in a good position in their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League playoff series with the Blind River Beavers.

After a series-opening win on Saturday night, the Thunderbirds took a 2-0 series lead over the Beavers with a 6-3 win on Sunday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Matthew Bazarin scored a pair of goals for the Thunderbirds on Sunday.

Nick Smith chipped in with a goal and an assist while Spencer Van Tiem, Lucas Theriault, and Nolan Ford also scored for the Thunderbirds.

Defenceman Steve Bellini assisted on three Thunderbirds goals while Noah Boman assisted a pair of assists.

Thunderbirds goaltender Colin Ahern stopped 34 shots.

Caleb Serre and Justin Mauro had a goal and an assist for Blind River.

Nash Hatcher had the other Blind River goal.

Garret Boyonoski made 30 saves for the Beavers.

With the Thunderbirds holding a 2-0 lead, the series shifts to Blind River for game three on Tuesday night and game four on Friday.

If necessary, game five is back in Sault Ste. Marie on March 24.
