Thunderbirds ink three heading into camp

With the opening of training camp one week away, the Soo Thunderbirds roster continues to take shape ahead of the 2017-18 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season.

The team signed three players this week, including a pair of forwards and a goaltender.

The team announced on Friday that forwards Austin Heinrich, Brendan Miller and goaltender Eric Schuch.

Heinrich, 17, spent last season with the York Simcoe Express major midget team and had six assists in 40 games while also playing six games with the Ontario Junior League’s Aurora Tigers.

Miller was a member of the Soo Indians AAA team last season where he scored 17 goals and 35 points in 47 games. The 19-year-old played three seasons with the Indians.

Schuch, from Holland, Mich., had a 2.99 goals against average and an .888 save percentage in 15 games with the Fox Motors U18 team last season.

The Thunderbirds will open training camp on Aug. 19 at the John Rhodes Community Centre with on-ice sessions set for 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
