Thunderbirds go 2-1 on road trip

The Soo Thunderbirds wrapped up a three-game Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League road trip on Sunday afternoon in North Bay by dropping a 2-0 decision to the Trappers.

The Soo Thunderbirds wrapped up a three-game Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League road trip on Sunday afternoon in North Bay by dropping a 2-0 decision to the Trappers.

The loss ended a nine-game winning streak for the Thunderbirds and pulled the Trappers to within two points of the first-place Thunderbirds in the NOJHL standings.

Tait Seguin and Corbin Bean scored for the Trappers in the win while goaltender Dustin Hummel stopped all 38 shots he faced in the win.

Thunderbirds goaltender Joel Horodziejczyk stopped 41 shots in the loss.

On Saturday night, the Thunderbirds beat the Abitibi Eskimos 4-0 in Iroquois Falls. Steven Dombroski stopped 39 shots for the shutout while A.J. Kapcheck had a goal and two assists. Brandon Warmington added a goal and an assist. Tyler Jones and Dallas McLaughlin also scored in the win.

Abitibi goaltender Jackson Winker stopped 35 shots.

On Friday night in Kirkland Lake, Gavin Burbach scored three times while Adam Ritchie had a goal and an assist in a 6-4 Thunderbirds win over Kirkland Lake. Kapcheck and Anthony Miller scored for the Thunderbirds.

Francis Desforges and Connor McNally scored for Kirkland Lake.

Next up for the Thunderbirds is a road game in Elliot Lake on Nov. 23.
