Thunderbirds extend unbeaten streak

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season is nearly complete and the Soo Thunderbirds are continuing to win games

The Soo Thunderbirds continue to roll as the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season winds down.

Brandon Gordon made 20 saves on Saturday night as the Thunderbirds blanked the Elliot Lake Wildcats 4-0 at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Gage Stephney paced the Thunderbirds with a pair of goals as the team improved to 39-11-1-1.

Sean Emmerson and Austin Kozluk also scored for the home team. Kaidan McDonald assisted on three goals for the Thunderbirds.

Elliot Lake goaltender got the start, stopping 12 of 14 shots but left the game after the Thunderbirds second goal late in the opening period. Matt Kostiw came in and stopped 24 shots in just over 40 minutes of work.

The loss drops Elliot Lake’s record to 21-25-4-3.

The Thunderbirds return to action on Tuesday night against the Rayside Balfour Canadians. Puck drop at the John Rhodes Community Centre is set for 7 p.m.
