A busy off-season continued for the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds on Monday with a pair of moves.

In one deal, the team traded defenceman Andrew Cordssen-David to the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Georgetown Raiders in exchange for a player development fee.

Cordssen-David was acquired by the Thunderbirds on July 7 in a deal with the OJHL’s Trenton Golden Hawks that sent Zach Senecal and a player development fee to Trenton.

In another deal on Monday, the Thunderbirds acquired Sault Ste. Marie product Tyler Malpass from the Superior International League’s Fort Frances Lakers in exchange for a player development fee.

The 18-year-old Malpass scored 15 goals and 29 points in 47 regular season games with the Lakers in his first season with the team.

The two deals mark a busy time for the Thunderbirds as the team has made a number of deals over the summer.

Earlier this summer, the team dealt forward Matt Caruso to the Greater Ontario League’s Niagara Falls Canucks, Mark Tassone and Gage Stephney to the Golden Hawks – in separate deals – and Brendan Jay to the SIJHL’s Dryden IceDogs.

The deal with Dryden saw the Thunderbirds acquire defenceman Garrett Giertuga while the other three deals saw the team acquire player development fees.

Early last week, the Thunderbirds signed seven players ahead of the 2017-18 season, including forwards Tanner Mayne and Caleb Wood along with defencemen Kelly Quevillon, Justin Ryppo, Nolan Ford, Bradon Caruso and Steven Bellini.

The Thunderbirds training camp is set to open on Aug. 19 with NOJHL regular season action beginning on Sept. 8 in Hearst against the Lumberjacks.
