The Soo Thunderbirds opened their final regular season homestand in familiar fashion on Saturday night.

The Thunderbirds blanked the Sudbury Nickel Barons 4-0 at the Essar Centre in their second last game of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season.

NOJHL MVP Joel Horodziejczyk stopped all 19 shots he faced for the shutout in the win.

Joey Miller had three goals while Darcy Haines also scored in the win. Nicolas Tassone chipped in with a pair of assists in the win for the Thunderbirds.

The win improves the Thunderbirds record to 47-5-1-2 with the win while Sudbury falls to 19-30-0-7 with the loss.

The Thunderbirds wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon as they host the Elliot Lake Bobcats in a 3 p.m. puck drop.
