After almost six weeks away from game action, Team Brad Jacobs was back on the ice on Friday to open the Ashley Homestore Curling Classic in Penticton, B.C.

It was a tough opening day for the Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden.

Team Jacobs dropped a pair of games on opening day, which included a 5-3 extra end loss to Tyler Tardi of Langley, B.C. in the opening draw, and a 9-4 loss to Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont. in the afternoon draw.

Against Tardi, they went into the fifth end tied at one after trading singles in the second and third ends.

Tardi proceeded to score a pair in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

Jacobs cut the lead to one with a single in the sixth.

After Tardi blanked the seventh end, Jacobs forced the extra end with a steal of one in the eighth end before Tardi capped off the win in the extra end.

In the afternoon draw, Howard scored a pair late to break things open and stole a pair to seal the win.

After a scoreless opening end, the two teams traded singles to head into the fourth end tied at one with Jacobs holding the hammer.

After Jacobs got a single in the end to take the league, Howard rebounded by scoring four in the fifth end to take the lead for good.

The Jacobs rink got a pair back in the sixth to pull to within one, but Howard would score a pair in the seventh before sealing the win with a steal of two in the eighth end to cap off the game.

The Jacobs rink is back in action with a pair of games on Saturday at the four-day event.

Team Jacobs is scheduled to face Jason Montgomery of Victoria, B.C. at 12 p.m. Sault time on Saturday before wrapping up action Saturday against Paul Cseke, of Kelowna, B.C. at 4:30 p.m.

The Jacobs rink will wrap up round-robin action on Sunday morning against Cameron de Jong of Victoria, B.C.
