Team Jacobs remains unbeaten heading into Sunday action

Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre remain unbeaten at the Stu Sells Tankard, being held this weekend at the KW Granite Club in Waterloo, Ont.

After opening the event with a pair of wins on Friday, Team Jacobs, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, improved to 5-0 with three more wins on Saturday.

Team Jacobs opened the day with a 9-1 win in six ends over Sylvain Bellavance of Quebec in the morning draw.

Bellavance opened the scoring with a single in the first end.

Jacobs got on the board with a pair in the second end before adding a single in the third to go up 3-1.

Leading 5-1 after a pair in the fourth end, Jacobs sealed the win by scoring four more in the sixth end.

The Jacobs rink then proceeded to beat Toronto’s Rob Ainsley 6-0 in five ends in Draw 8.

After Ainsley blanked the opening end, Jacobs took a 2-0 lead in the second end before sealing the win with three further steals.

Jacobs picked up steals of one each in the third and fourth ends before stealing a pair in the fifth end to cap off the win.

Team Jacobs wrapped up the day with a 6-3 win over Tom Pruliere of Paisley, Ont.

Pruliere opened the scoring with a single in the first end before stealing another in the second end to go up 2-0.

Jacobs got on the board with a single in the third end before taking the lead with a steal of two in the fourth end.

After Jacobs went up 5-2 with a steal of two more in the fifth end, the two teams traded singles in the subsequent two ends to cap off the scoring.

Team Jacobs was one of two teams in the 12-team men’s field to finish round robin action unbeaten with Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont. also going 5-0 through the opening two days.

At the time of writing, Jacobs’ opponent for playoff round action on Sunday wasn’t set.
