Streaky Hounds win fourth in a row

The Soo Greyhounds are on another streak after rolling over the Kingston Frontenacs.

The Greyhounds won their fourth consecutive Ontario Hockey League game on Friday night with a convincing 5-2 win over the Frontenacs in Kingston.

Jeff Carter paced the Greyhounds attack with two goals and an assist in being named the game's first star.

The Hounds have been one of the streakiest teams in the OHL. So far this season, the Greyhounds have suffered two three-game losing skids while enjoying a seven-game winning streak and the current four game victory streak.

With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 12-6-1-1 for 26 points and top spot in the West division, two points ahead of the Sarnia Sting.

After Danny McDonald opened the scoring 3:19 in the opening period for the Frontenacs, the Greyhounds took control of the game and scored five unanswered goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead after two periods.

Jeff Doyle with his sixth of the year, Carter with his 12th and 13th of the season, Tyler Kennedy with his sixth and Matt Puntureri with his fourth scored for the Greyhounds. Kennedy and Puntureri also added an assist each.

Bill Kinkle scored for Kingston in the third period.

Kevin Druce, who was named the game's third star, was solid in net for the Greyhounds stopping 34 of 36 shots on goal.

The marked a homecoming for Greyhounds head coach Marty Abrams. Abrams is a Kingston native and spent last season as the head scout for the Frontenacs.

The Greyhounds road trip concludes on Sunday in Mississauga against the Ice Dogs at 2 p.m.

The team will return home for a three-game homestand beginning Wednesday against the Sarnia Sting at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

In other OHL action on Friday, Daniel Carcillo scored three times to lead Sarnia past Barrie 4-2, David Lomas scored twice as Windsor beat Plymouth 4-3, Craig Voakes scored a goal and added two assists as Kitchener hammered Erie 8-1 while Tim Brent scored a goal and an assist to lead Toronto St. Michael's past Sudbury 4-2 in a game that featured six fights and six game misconducts.

Martin St. Pierre and Matt Ryan scored two goals each to pace Guelph past Brampton 5-2, Patrick O'Sullivan scored three goals to lead Mississauga past London 6-5 and Taylor Raszka scored twice as Saginaw doubled Belleville 6-3.
