The Sault Steelers completed a perfect season opening road trip with a convincing 31-13 win over rival Sudbury on Saturday night.

The Sault Steelers completed a perfect season opening road trip with a convincing 31-13 win over rival Sudbury on Saturday night.

With the win, the Steelers return for their Northern Football Conference home opener next Saturday against Tri-City with a 2-0 record. Game time is 7 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field.

In Sudbury, the Steelers opened the scoring against the Spartans as quarterback Seth Cond connected with Josh Gauthier for a 15-yard touchdown reception.

Trailing 9-0 after the first quarter, Sudbury took the lead in the second after a pair of 30-yard field goals and a touchdown run by Eric Paquette. But the Steelers quickly answered with a touchdown to lead 16-13 at the half.

Steeler running back James Albidone scored on a 10 yard run to opening the second half while Gauthier completed the scoring with his second touchdown reception of the night.

In other NFC games from Saturday, North Bay hammered Belleville 45-7 and Oakville blanked Mega City 45-0.
