After a low-scoring meeting in Sault Ste. Marie, the Sault Steelers and Sudbury Spartans are set to meet in Sudbury on Saturday night in a Northern Football Conference rematch.

The Spartans picked up an 8-6 win over the Steelers on June 8 at Rocky DiPietro Field locally in a game that saw the Steelers struggle offensively.

Steelers player/coach Brandon Lewis said he hopes that some strong efforts defensively this season continue on Saturday, calling it a “strong unit.”

On the offensive side of the ball, Lewis hopes that the Steelers manage to build on some positives from a 41-6 win last weekend at home over North Bay.

“Guys put the system first, they were running the system,” Lewis said after the win over North Bay last weekend. “Our O-line was playing well, our backs ran well. We got some work out of Darrel (Wood) early on (at quarterback) and then Ryan (Yost) took over and got some needed reps in order to get some game time.”

The Steelers enter Saturday’s contest in Sudbury with a 2-2 record while Sudbury sits at 3-1.

Kickoff in Sudbury is set for 7:15 p.m.

In Ontario Football Conference action this weekend, the Sault Sabercats junior varsity team is set to take a 4-0-1 record on the road to face the Waterloo Predators on Saturday afternoon.

On the heels of a 43-7 win over the Forest City Thunderbirds last weekend at home, the Sabercats enjoy a bye next weekend before a road game in Hamilton on July 7 and a home game against Sarnia on July 13 to wrap up the regular season.

The Sabercats varsity team is on a bye week before returning to action on June 30 at home against Waterloo.
