Local football fans will get their fill on Saturday as the Sault Sabercats and Sault Steelers play host to games at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The Sabercats open the twin bill against the Cambridge Lions at 2 p.m. followed by the Steelers and the Tri-City Outlaws at 7 p.m.

The Sabercats enter the game at 1-2 in Ontario Varsity Football League play. The team nearly beat out top ranked Essex last Saturday, but surrendered a lead in the fourth quarter.

Cambridge has struggled this season with a 0-3 record. The Lions have managed to contain teams well defensively but their offense can be considered anaemic at best, scoring only 22 points in three contests.

Meanwhile, the 2-0 Steelers will be making their Northern Football Conference home debut after a very successful season opening two game road swing. The Steelers opened with a win in Belleville before rolling past Sudbury last weekend.

Tri-City has looked impressive as a NFC expansion club playing out of the Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph areas. They enter the game with a 2-1 record after spanking the Mississauga Wolverines 24-3 last Saturday. Their only loss was to the undefeated North Bay Bulldogs in week one.

*** EXTRA POINTS:

* Steelers defensive lineman Brandon Lewis has been named the NFC defensive player of the week for his efforts in Sudbury. Against the Spartans, Lewis recorded six solo tackles, two tackles for losses of 13 yards and a safety touch.

* In Sunday's Steelers-Spartans game recap, SooToday mistakenly mentioned that Josh Gauthier scored two touchdown receptions. In fact, Kyle Lansdell was the receiver with two touchdown receptions. SooToday apologizes for the error.
