A weekend split closed out the regular season for the Soo North Stars, who finished in second place in the Great North Midget Hockey League. After beating the Valley East Cobras 5-3 on Saturday, the North Stars lost 3-1 to Sudbury Lockerby on Sunday. In Saturday's game, Michael Sharp and Corey Sewell scored twice apiece, Michael D'Agostini had the other and Chris Towell had a pair of assists in support of goalie Michael Maulucci. On Sunday, Combs had the only Soo goal. Meanwhile, Maulucci and Travis O'Brien combined for the best goals-against-average in the GNMHL since the '92-93 season when Marty Turco and Jamie Capy were tending net for the Soo. Turco went on to star for the University of Michigan Wolverines and is now one of the top goalies in the National Hockey League as a member of the Dallas Stars.
