Sproul named to Canadian junior selection camp

Soo Greyhounds defenceman Ryan Sproul has been invited to the Canadian National Junior Team selection camp. The list of 37 players invited to the camp was announced early this afternoon by Hockey Canada.

The list of 37 players invited to the camp was announced early this afternoon by Hockey Canada.

Sproul was among 12 defencemen invited to compete for seven spots on the Canadian blueline for the World Junior Hockey Championships in Ufa, Russia.

Sproul was among 18 players from the Ontario Hockey League invited to the camp, including six OHL defencemen.

The veteran defenceman has five goals and 17 points in 13 games with the Greyhounds this season, including four goals and eight points in six games since returning from injury.

Also named to the camp from the OHL were goaltenders Jordan Binnington (Owen Sound), Jake Paterson (Saginaw), Malcolm Subban (Belleville), Frank Corrado (Sudbury), Dougie Hamilton (Niagara), Scott Harrington (London), Ryan Murphy (Kitchener), Adam Pelech (Erie), Anthony Camara (Barrie), Daniel Catenacci (Owen Sound), Tyler Graovac (Ottawa), Boone Jenner (Oshawa), Sean Monahan (Ottawa), Brett Ritchie (Niagara), Mark Scheifele (Barrie), Ryan Strome (Niagara) and Tom Wilson (Plymouth).

The camp is schedule to open on Dec. 11.
