Soo Night Hawks win consolation game in latest tournament

SAULT STE MARIE, MICH. – The Soo Night Hawks baseball team travelled to Sault Ste. Marie Michigan to compete in the Sault Area High School Sault Invitational Baseball Tournament. 

The Soo Night Hawks were joined by host Sault High, Marquette, and Inland Lakes. The Night Hawks lost their opener to Marquette 8-0 and were relegated to the consolation game which they won in extra innings against Inland Lakes by a score of 5-3.

In the opener against Marquette the Night Hawks gave up a run in the first and six in the third en route to the 8-0 loss. Brennan Mitchell got the start for the Night Hawks going the first five innings and striking out four. Offensively the Night Hawks bats were silent with only Mitchell, Stephen Bos, and Cole Wright picking up hits.    

In game two, the Night Hawks would once again fall behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Night Hawks would enter the 6th inning trailing 2-0 when the bats awoke for three runs, after giving up a run to tie it in the bottom of the sixth the Night Hawks would put up two more in the 7th for the 5-3 win. 

Braedon Whalen would get the start for the Night Hawks pitching six solid innings while striking out 11 and picking up his third victory of the season; Jack McLeod would come on for the save in the 7th inning and pick up two strike outs. 

Offensively the Night Hawks hits were picked up by Brennan Mitchell, Tyler Sayers, Whalen, Brandon Boyer, McLeod, and Cole Wright. Scoring runs in the victory were Mitchell, Sayers, Whalen, Malcolm McPhee, and McLeod.  Driving in runs were Sayers, Boyer, McLeod, and Noah O’Brien.
