Seven straight for Thunderbirds

The Soo Thunderbirds picked up an overtime victory on Wednesday night in Blind River

It took overtime but the Soo Thunderbirds extended its winning streak to seven games on Wednesday night.

Zach Senecal scored at 1:50 of the second overtime period to give the Thunderbirds a 1-0 victory over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action. Senecal scored with the Thunderbirds on the man advantage after Blind River’s Zak Lambrecht took a hooking penalty 20 seconds into the period.

Thunderbirds goaltender Brandon Gordon stopped 30 shots for the shutout.

Blind River netminder Myles Hektor stopped 37 shots.

The Thunderbirds improve to 22-7-1-0 and hold a six-point lead over the Rayside Balfour Canadians atop the NOJHL’s West Division standings.

Blind River falls to 17-12-1-0 and trail the Canadians by four points for second in the West Division.

The Thunderbirds return to action on Sunday evening in Elliot Lake against the Wildcats.
