The rain fell on the Peewee Division, but otherwise conditions were perfect for Semi-Final Sunday in the SMFL.

Six teams moved on to Championship Sunday, which is shaping up to be a great day of football. Here is the Semi-Final Sunday wrap-up.

Tim Horton’s Atom Division

Little Caesar’s Hawks 57
Manulife Warriors 0

The Little Caesar’s Hawks soared into next Sunday’s Atom Division final with a 57-0 win over the Manulife Warriors. Evan Headrick led the rushing attack for the Hawks, with 10 carries for 120 yards and 2 TDs.

QB Matti Tucker scored 2 TDs on the ground, and threw for one to Martina Pucci. Pucci, Lucas Lepore and Mary Plastino also had rushing TDs.

Spencer Headrick had a monster game on defence, with 6 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries. Keenan Boissoneau and Jairus Dunster both had 7 tackles for the Hawks.

It was an unlucky day for Manulife, as standout RB Jack McPherson was bottled up all day, managing only 13 yards on 13 carries. Ryan Lajunen was the leading tackler on the day, with 13 tackles. Little Caesar’s moves on to the finals where they face the All State Blues.

All State Blues 28
Sports Gold Mustangs 23

The All State Blues came out on top in the second semi-final, narrowly edging the Sports Gold Mustangs 28-23. Jarrett Dewar led all rushers with 175 yards on 12 carries, and 2 TDs. Sam Provenzano also had 2 scores for the Blues, and Brady Hodkinson led all defenders with 12 tackles and an interception.

Tye Rushon had 8 tackles, and Ryan Palumbo had 5. Sports Gold QB Kaylob Thibodeau was 5 for 11 through the air, and threw for 2 TDs to Colton Greene.

Greene had all 3 TDs for the Mustangs, scoring the third on a 6-yard TD run. The Blues will meet the 1st-place Hawks in the finals, next Sunday at 3:30.

SalDan Peewee Division

Sault Promo Cardinals 18
Fireside Steelers 13

The Fireside Steelers made it close on the scoreboard, but in the end the Sault Promo Cardinals maintained their perfect season and rolled to a berth in the finals, winning 18-13.

Cardinals QB Jaidan Trudeau scampered for a 60-yard TD in the first half, but that’s all the offence either team could muster in the rain, and Sault Promo carried a 6-0 lead into the half.

Two second half scores by Devin Mauro put the Cardinals up 18-0, but the Steelers fought back late with 2 TDs from Wyatt McLachlan, whose 82 yards rushing led both teams in that category. Devonte Parr had 8 tackles for Sault Promo, Creo Solomon had 7, while Brandon Vecchio had 5.

Ethan Jourdin led the Steelers with 3 tackles. Sault Promo has put the 1972 Miami Dolphins on notice, looking to go perfect with a win in the championships against Northern Dental.

Northern Dental Chargers 18
Realty Executives Giants 2

The weather wreaked havoc with the Realty Executives Giants high-powered passing game, and the Chargers league-leading defence held them off the board, with a safety by the Giants defence their only score in an 18-2 win.

Kaiden Fisher had 12 rushes for 84 yards and 2 TDs for Northern Dental, while Ashton Lemieux, filling in at QB, had the other score for the Chargers.

Dean Breton and Caden McLeod both had 5 tackles in the win, with McLeod adding a sack. Daniel Bumbaco had 110 yards of total offence on 4 catches and 6 carries.

Jacob Brown and Wyatt Swire both had 5 tackles for the Giants. Northern Dental now faces Sault Promo in the finals, where they look to avenge 2 regular season losses to the Cardinals.

Little Caesar’s Bantam Division

Tim Horton’s Lions 23
SalDan Redblacks 6

Michael Nicoletta returned an interception 75-yards for a touchdown in the first half, but it would turn out to be SalDan’s only score, as they fell to the 1st-place Tim Horton’s Lions 23-6.

Tim Horton’s got TDs from Mitchell Dewar and Carter Ianni on offence, and Malcolm Boyer also had a defensive score on a pick-6. Tyler Greco had 8 tackles to lead the defence, while Dante Campagna had 5 tackles and 1 sack.

Nick Pountney-Major chipped in with 4 tackles, a safety and a fumble recovery. Zach Martin had 8 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery for the Redblacks, while Seth Stong had 7 tackles. Tim Horton’s moves on to play the the Yard Smart Ticats for the Little Caesar’s Bantam Division championship.

Yard Smart Ticats 36
Community First Argos 30

The Community First Argos took the Yard Smart Ticats to the wire, but a last minute drive by the Argos was snuffed out in the Ticats end of the field as time expired to move Yard Smart into the finals with a 36-30 score.

The teams traded TDs all game, with Braydon Grbich finding the end zone 5 times, on 19 carries for 348 yards. Grbich's last TD came with only 36 seconds left on the clock to put them ahead by 6.

On the other side of the ball, QB Nick Pagnotta led the Argos attack, going 8 for 19 for 223 yards passing, including 2 passing TDs to Dylan Forsyth. Paginate accounted for the other 2 Community First TDs on the ground, where he finished with 172 yards on 15 carries.

Carsten Moffatt led the Ticats on defence with 9 tackles and 2 sacks, while Pagnotta had 6 tackles for the Argos. The Ticats move on to face Tim Horton’s in Sunday’s Championships at 7:30.

SMFL Championship Sunday goes next weekend, with games at 3:30 (Atom), 5:30 (Peewee), and 7:30 (Bantam). Congratulations to all teams who had their seasons end today, and good luck to everyone competing in the finals.
